Dear Friends:

Summer is passing very quickly. We are beginning to experience cooler mornings and evenings in Steamboat Springs. In a few weeks, kids will be back to school. The last kids’ camp with Lynn is on August 8th. She will be ending the summer kids’ sewing camps with a fun 3D needle-felting workshop. Be sure to register today! Also, mark your calendar for the 103rd Routt County Fair taking place from August 11th through August 28th. Information about the fair is available on the Routt County Fair website. Make sure to finish your fair entry projects on time! Come by to see us if you need any last minute supplies.

Happy Crafting!

Best Wishes:

It's Fair Time!

Routt-County-Fair-USA-QuiltIt’s hard to believe, but Fair time is upon us! It’s time to finish up those special fiber projects so you can submit them to the Routt County Fair! The fair starts August 11 and goes through August 20. Check out the schedule on-line.

We try to encourage all our local customers to create something wonderful to share with friends, families and fellow Routt County neighbors who go to the fair. Many attend to support the hard-working 4-H youths and get inspiration in the home arts building. A beautiful quilted piece or a handmade article of clothing, a soft knitted or crocheted sweater or afghan, a scrumptious jar of strawberry jam, a colorful flower arrangement, a clever wood carving, or a special photograph or painting may be just the perfect thing to inspire someone else to try their hand at creativity. Perpetuating our handcrafts is such an important thing to do. After all, we don’t want to lose that crucial piece of our culture.

We have tags and the Fair Book in the shop. Drop-off date is August 16 from
1-8:00 PM, and we can take your submissions for you. Pick-up is on Sunday so keep your receipt or give it to whoever is picking up your item(s). Good luck to all and keep creating!

What's On Our Needles: Cindy Clark and Stephanie Labossiere

Building Blocks KAL

Building-Blocks-Book

A knitting series designed to grow your skills by Michelle “Knit Purl” Hunter

This isn’t currently on our needles, but it’s going to be! We wanted to have a class, KAL, or project for all you new knitters who have taken the Intro to Knitting class but haven’t made the next jump into another or a more advanced project. Starting in September we are going to offer a unique KAL. Each month we’ll be knitting a different block, each with its own pattern and learning opportunities. At the end of 12 months you’ll have 12 blocks that will be sewn together to make a gorgeous throw blanket measuring 36”x48”. You could even do half and make it a baby blanket (or two baby blankets if you did all 12!) It’s entirely up to you, which is the beauty of this KAL.

Building-Blocks-Sample-Sew-SteamboatAll we request is that you buy your supplies from us. We will be using 100% Extra Fine Superwash Sugarbush Bold yarn – there are over 35 colors to choose from. You can do your blanket in one color, two colors or each block could be its own color – again, up to you! Each month we will host an hour-long session to go over the block, demonstrate the new stitches, answer any questions you might have, and of course to knit along with you. Stephanie has already knitted the first block as a sample. This is going to be a lot of fun seeing what colors everyone picks out, seeing how beginners progress in their skills, and of course enjoying the social aspect of KALs! Watch the September newsletter for the start date of the first hosted session, and be sure to come in to pick out your color(s). See you in September!

(This class is Full!)

When: August 5th & 6th; 10am-6pm

Description: Make a baby quilt!  We will be making a pinwheel baby quilt with a prairie points border.  The pinwheel part of the quilt uses a fun, easy method that uses a precut charm pack (5" squares.)  We will then make the prairie points border using the leftover 5" squares.  We will not be doing the actual quilting, this class is for the top of the quilt only.  I will be making arrangements for your quilt top to be quilted, if you like, or you can either quilt it yourself or send it to your own quilter. The sample quilt for this class is the yellow/30's reproduction fabrics with the bunny quilting on the border.

Instructor: Carol Mikkelson
