February Newsletter 2017

Sew Steamboat Newsletter Banner

Dear {tag_recipientfirstname}:

Steamboat Springs has been a winter wonderland! It snowed almost everyday in the month of January. Without a doubt, Steamboat skiers have been enjoying their fresh champagne powder outdoors while our friends of Sew Steamboat tackle their craft projects indoors!

This month, we are excited to offer a new class- Beginning Rug Hooking on 17th of February. Carol is offering the beginning to quilting class again, in case you missed her class last month. As usual, Intro to Knitting and Beginning Crochet classes are being offered regularly. Lynn also has some adult sewing classes this month. There are two technique knitting classes offered by Cindy and Cho; be sure to check our website or call for up-to-date class information and to register. We hope to see you in the store and craft with you!

Best Wishes:

Blair, Carol, Cho, Cindy, Donna, Lynn, and Nancy

Exciting New Classes

Rug Hooking ToolsWe are so excited to be offering two new classes this winter. First of all, we are welcoming Vicki Rudolph who will be teaching Beginning Rug Hooking on February 17 from 12:30 - 3:30 PM. She will be instructing you in the very basics using our cute little rug hooking kits that can be done on an embroidery hoop and then finished as a wall hanging or stylish pillow. Finishing the piece will be done in a separate, follow-up class. We've had a lot of interest in this wonderful craft, so sign up early!

We are also happy to inform you that some of our local rug hookers want to invite other "hookers" to their meetings upstairs in our shop at 12:00 PM the second and third Wednesdays of each month. It's a fun group to join for creative inspiration!

For our second exciting, new class, we are looking forward to hosting Lorrae Moon from Yampa Valley Fiberworks for an all-day weaving workshop. Lorrae will be coming over from Craig on Sunday, March 19 from 10:00-4:00 with her Schacht Cricket Looms for which she is a dealer. She will teach up to 6 students how to weave a simple project using yarns you can purchase from our shop. This is a great way to try out weaving and expand your fiber experience.

What's On Our Needles: Carol Mikkelson

Sew Steamboat - Carol Mikkelson Quilting

Learning How To Quilt

Come and learn some basic quilting techniques in my new Advanced Beginning Quilting class!   In this class I will be teaching everyone how to choose fabric, and how to rotary cut from yardage.   After sewing our strips together, we will rotary cut again. This is one of the most commonly used techniques used in quilting.  This technique cuts down on both cutting and sewing time.  Then we will learn how to make “snowball” blocks, which also is a very common quilting technique.  I will be bringing in photos of many quilts that you could go on to make using these techniques.  This will be a baby sized quilt, which can also be used as a wall quilt.
