January Newsletter 2016

01-Jan-2016

Dear Friends:

Happy New Year! If you're like most, you have a list of resolutions. Our resolutions at Sew Steamboat might be a tad different than the usual "lose weight", "exercise more", and "be a better person." (Although those are still on the list!) As you can imagine, ours revolve around our love of craft and art....learn how to Entrelac, teach others a new skill each month, expand our shop into needlepoint, grasp the magic loop technique with two socks at a time, participate in Row by Row (for quilters!) Not only do we all want to grow individually as crafters and artists, we want our customers to learn and grow as well. So make 2016 the year you take on a new craft, learn a new skill, or better yet, pass your skills on to a friend! The Sew Steamboat team is more than happy to help in any way possible.

Speaking of new - Sew Steamboat has signature yarn! Made from local CVM wool and alpaca, and processed in Craig, Colorado (Yampa Valley Fiberworks.) It's a sport weight yarn in four natural colors. Get it while you can, because when it's gone, it's gone!

Here's to a great 2016, from all of us at Sew Steamboat,

From Left: Lynn, Donna, Mariah, Nancy, La, Cindy, Kathleen, Blair, and Cho

[Please note our holiday hours: we are closed New Year's Day.]

Staff Picks: Blair Weibel - Needlepoint

We have expanded our creative offerings to include needlepoint kits and Brown Sheep Wool. While at a needle-arts convention in May, Nancy found some cute canvases, the themes of which include ornaments featuring Labrador Retrievers and snowmen (and more!) So very Steamboat! I assembled them into kits with wool from nearby Brown Sheep Wool (they are located in Nebraska), needles and instructions. If you haven’t tried needlepoint, I think you will find it is easier than you think, especially since the hard work of choosing colors is done already! Speaking of colors, we have a rainbow of colors of needlepoint wool. Small hanks that can be used for needlepoint or color work. If you would like help getting started I would be happy to teach you in a private session; just an hour should be more than enough time to get you started. The kits we have currently are relatively small and can be turned into ornaments or pillows. Stop in, check them out and start stitching!

What's On Our Needles: Cindy Clark

KFI Luxury Collection -- Curls pattern

100% silk. Let me just say that again, 100% silk. Wow this yarn is delightful to knit up! It feels incredible to work with, and the drape is absolutely stunning. This product comes from the KFI Luxury Collection, and we have two colorways in the shop. This pink/brown combination, and another one in blue/green. It is a sport weight, 100g, 289 yards, with a gauge of 23-26 sts/4" (US 3-5.) I've chosen a pattern (Sinopia) in a book we carry called, Curls. This book has many shawls and scarfs that you knit from tip to end, and once blocked look like a curled piece of art. One skein of this 100% luxury silk yarn is enough for this particular pattern. Come check it out and receive 10% off the KFI Luxury Sport Silk during the month of January!
