It has been a while since our last newsletter and we have so much to tell you. First of all, Matt Dudley, Gayle’s son is doing very well. After
a number of chemo treatments, transplant and other treatments, Matt was
recently released from the hospital and is now enjoying a much needed
time at home in Alaska. Gayle and Jim are also home in Steamboat. With so much going on with Matt, Gayle has decided to concentrate on Matt’s recovery and move on from the shop. While she will be missed at the shop, we understand and support her decision and we wish her the best.
Sew Steamboat might have lost a partner, but at the same time we gained 9 new partners! The local fiber arts community jumped into action to preserve our town's local yarn and fabric shop. First,
LA Bourgeois, our knitting instructor, began approaching people about
creating a partnership (modeled on the cooperative structure) to take
over the store. On September 15th, enough fiber enthusiasts
had committed financially to the idea to make it a reality and six women
(Donna Henderson, Laurie Manning, Nancy Paul, Cho Tin Tun, Kathleen
Titus and Lynn Wunder) joined me and LA Bourgeois in running and
operating the store. During October, two additional ladies stepped
forward to work towards becoming members of the partnership, Bonnie
Madderom and Mariah Poole. And with that Sew Steamboat is still here
today to serve our community.
On November 18th from 5-7pm, everyone is invited to come over to Sew Steamboat and meet the new faces of Sew Steamboat. We all look forward to seeing you.
