Dear Friend:
|
|
|
As we enter November, my thoughts turn to family and gifting. The air begins to turn from crisp to frigid, snow collects on the mountain (if not in our yards), and I snuggle into my chair each evening with a cup of tea and my knitting. People who I didn't even know craft show up in the store to say hello and pick up supplies for their latest endeavor, and I discover a new knitter, needle felter, seamstress, embroiderer, rug hooker. Others begin their journey by learning to knit, sewing that very first little pillow, or needle felting their first design on Christmas stockings.
Whichever person you are, our little group is here for you with yarn, fiber, fabric and inspiration to help you create that next fabulous masterpiece.
(Except on Thanksgiving. We're closed on Thanksgiving.)
Happy Crafting!

Holiday Sewing
T his time of year I start thinking about holiday sewing. When my daughter was young, I was always on the look-out for fake fur and tulle to make Halloween costumes so I decided to stock up on a few here at Sew Steamboat for those little "monsters" and "princesses". I also brought in more Christmas fabrics because I recall sewing little outfits perfect for those infamous Christmas pictures!
Now-a-days, I'm more on the hunt for beautiful wools on which to needle felt and/or stitch and sew up into decorative table runners, wall hangings, bags or Christmas stockings. We have lots of various sizes of scrumptious wool from which to choose which are perfect for these projects as well as appliqué and rug hooking.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention Minky. Oh you know, that unbelievably soft, perfect for blankets fabric that our kids just can't live without. Sew the Minky on both sides or use it as a backing to a perfect cotton print or pieced quilt. It even makes cushy stuffed animals, pillows or pajama bottoms! We recently stocked some blue and pink cotton velour which could easily be sewn up into cozy baby outfits perfect for winter.
Who says we should only be knitting this time of year? I see all kinds of opportunities for sewing up some fantastic holiday projects. Stop by for some inspiration!

Simplicity by Hikoo
Noted as a value yarn, Simplicity by Hikoo is excellent for any project, at any time! Having used this yarn in many projects such as scarves, baby, children’s wear and decorative ornaments, this DK weight yarn is one of my favorite yarns to work with not only because it feels very soft in my hands but also for it’s durable ‘work horse’ quality. HiKoo yarn is 55% Merino Superwash, 28% Acrylic, 17% Nylon (Polyamide) and offered in 117 yards per 50gram hank. It is machine washable and available in many different colors. I highly recommend this yarn for your next project!
