Dear Friends:

We are heading into the holiday season and this means spending time with our families and friends. As we give thanks and exchange gifts this year, express your love with a handmade gift! Why not make a small gift while learning how to 3D needle felt with Lynn on November 11th in an adult class or November 22nd in the kids class. You may join Cho for a Basic Sashiko Embrodiery class or to Knit a Holiday Ornament. Also, Vicki's Beginning Rug Hooking class is back again by popular demand. As usual, Intro to Knitting and Beginning Crochet classes are also offered during this month. Scroll down to check out all our classes and events.

If you have an ornament made, Sew Steamboat is hosting a second annual Holiday Ornament Contest. Bring in your handmade ornament entries by December 6th at 5pm to be included in the judging. Winners will be announced at our Holiday Ornament Party on December 8th at 3:30pm, after which you may retrieve your ornaments. Many great prizes will be awarded, so be sure to join the fun! Contest details available on our website. Remember that Shop Small Business Saturday is on November 25th. We would like to thank our friends and customers by offering a 10% discount on purchases less than $100 and 20% discount on purchases over $100.00. Be sure to come see us!

Happy Crafting!

P.S. We will be closed on Thanksgiving day to celebrate with family and friends.

Best Wishes:

Midi Bag

Midi-Bag-Lynn-WunderI know that we’re probably a step behind the Mondo and Midi Bag craze, but we love these bags here at Sew Steamboat. Cindy made a really pretty Midi Bag with a pack of neutral colored 2.5” squares, and she just completed a Mondo Bag in Bronco colors! Lynn thought she might try her hand at one and offer a class or “sew along” to anyone else who would like to construct one of

these fun bags. We carry the patterns and interfacing for both sizes. Once you have made one, all you need is the interfacing which has all the sewing lines printed on it, a bunch of 2.5” squares and some fusible fleece to make them for all your friends and family.

Midi-Bag-Sew-Steamboat-Lynn-WunderLynn decided to use some leftover 2.5” batik strips to cut her squares. The squares are best if they’re a scant 2.5”. She then cut the interfacing panel into the four rectangles that make up the bag. The squares are ironed onto the

interfacing and then sewn to each other along horizontal and then vertical lines. This method is fantastic for those of us who have trouble matching our corners! Once the four rectangles are “pieced”, the bag is constructed with

seven seams. The lining is made up of the same sized rectangles backed with fusible fleece. Add two handles and you’re done. If you’d like some help making your first Midi or Mondo Bag, pick up your supplies at the shop and sign up for the Midi Bag Sew Along on November 6 and 13 from 4-6:00 PM. Or you can stop by during SewCiety on Wednesdays if you need help with the pattern.

Appliqué Class with Carol

Applique-Class-Carol-Mikkelson

Come join Carol on Saturday, December 9th for a Beginning Machine Applique class. You will learn basic machine applique techniques including circles and acute angles. You will start out by working on sample before moving on to our table runners. This is a perfect beginner project, as there are a variety of shapes to appliqué, as well as sewn together squares, which make up the background of the table runner, so you can perfect your technique before sewing the background blocks together. There will be a variety of fabrics for you to choose from to make both your backgrounds and flowers.
