Dear Customer:

Sew Steamboat- Kids Sewing Club 2015Goodbye Summer... Hello Fall!

Back to school marks the end of summer holiday and the beginning of fall season. Lynn’s Kids Sewing Club, a 9 session weekly sewing class was well attended by many young sewing enthusiasts. Pictured is one of our regular young-sewist, Veronica S. with her many sewing projects made during the summer weeks.

Beginning this fall, the partners at Sew Steamboat are excited to offer a new class: Introduction to Knitting! This class will teach you the basics of casting on, knit and purl stitches, and binding off. Everything you need to get started on basic knitting projects, Intro to Knitting will be offered the first Tuesday 4-6 pm OR the third Sunday 1-3 pm of each month with our partners: Cindy Clark, Blair Weibel, Kathleen Titus, and Cho Tin Tun Kirkpatrick as your instructors. Be sure to reserve your spot and we hope to see you in the shop very soon!

Sew Steamboat- Painted Dessert Cowl

Painted Desert distributed by Knitting Fever

Painted Desert yarn is a sock or fingering weight yarn which comes in 437 yard balls of 100% superwash wool.  We received several colors which are beautifully variegated and have a great price.

I chose to knit a slightly lacy cowl pattern called September Circle, which I purchased on Ravelry.  It was my first attempt at lace and my first time knitting with the Painted Desert.  Although I found it slightly more likely to split, Painted Desert was a delight to work with, and I am very happy with the final product.  If you are looking for a fingering weight yarn for a shawl or a cowl pattern, come check out the Painted Desert.  I am pretty certain that you will be happy with the color selections and price of this yarn!

Sew-Steamboat-Chateau-Chalet-CEYChateau and Chalet by Classic Elite Yarns

I just finished making a chemo hat from a pattern I found on Ravelry; the Lady Jodie Hat.  I used some new yarn that we received in the shop about a month ago from Classic Elite Yarns.  We carry both the Chateau and Chalet yarns, which are the same, the difference being that Chalet is un-dyed and Chateau is dyed.  These are chunky yarns, 70% baby alpaca and 30% bamboo viscose.

Calling it a "chunky weight" yarn is a little misleading, as it is the lightest yarn I have ever used.  This is due to its chainette construction.  While the yarn looks loose and tubular on the skein, it knits together quite densely, but it so feather-light that, as a hat, you barely know it is on your head.

It knits up fast (something I am definitely not used to) and is so shockingly soft that, like a good book you never want to end, this is a project I wanted to go on and on.

Notes: The embellishment on the hat was made with scrap yarn. Come to the shop for the pattern-there are several errors that I have corrected on our hard copy.
